    The Two Main Reasons for Smoking:



    1) Identification: Finding you own identity. Usually young people indulge in smoking modeling others whom they admire who smoke. Identification smoking is the most common and the easiest to eliminate.

    2) Replacement: Using this habit to fill in the space of a lack of companionship, love, acceptance, lack of self-esteem, security or independence; or to replace another habit such as overeating, or a reaction to anxiety or boredom, etc. Replacement smokers often derive sensual and/or ritualistic gratification from smoking. They enjoy touching or feeling the cigarettes, taping the pack, watching the flame of the lighter, the curling of rising smoke, or the smell of the burning tobacco. Replacement smoking can be the more powerful addiction.

    How Hypnotherapy Helps You Stop Smoking



    Hypnosis works well to create change because it temporarily bypasses the conscious mind and allows access to the subconscious mind. The behavioral changes are then experienced through suggestions.

    Hypnosis, combined with behavior modification, relaxation techniques, visualization, future pacing, and aversion therapy are powerful techniques to stop smoking. Naturally, your motivation and commitment to stop smoking are essential.

    The Role of Your Commitment



    One of the most powerful attributes of the human psyche is its ability to imagine. Hypnotherapy helps to develop and focus the powers of visualization if you are a visual person, or verbalization if you are an auditory person, or feelings if that is your way to perceive things.

    By the same token, Hypnotherapy cannot make you do things you don't want to do. This is clear with people who vacillate in their decision to stop smoking.

    Sometimes one wants to stop smoking and wants a friend to stop smoking with them. But the friend does not want to stop smoking at all, he/she is not ready yet. In this case, the whole process of stopping smoking for the first person is jeopardized, and perhaps becomes impossible, because the close friend is not there at this stage to stop smoking yet.

    In another instance, you may theoretically wish to stop smoking (some day) but realistically are not committed to ending this habit yet. Perhaps, your reasons are that you are going through a difficult time, stress on the job, divorce, or death in the family, etc. Those of you to whom this applies, skip down to the reasons to stop smoking today.

    The ways your hypnotherapist will use to facilitate your process of stop smoking are mainly your imagination. The ability to visualize one's self as a non-smoker, enjoying new health, energy and vitality, is a major asset. Visualization enables the client to 'see' cigarettes as unappealing, bad tasting, foul smelling and revolting. Likewise, its possible to feel and sense clean breath, a healthy appearance, disappearance of wrinkles caused by the smoking habit, and increased sensitivity to taste, fragrances and smells. A smoker can visualize himself/herself looking healthier, more active, in better physical condition, breathing easy with stronger, healthier lungs. Perhaps, postpone or eliminate the possibility of lung cancer or other disease. Through hypnotherapy, the senses of sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste can all be enhanced and used to modify reactions to achieve goals.

    Reinforcement



    A new non-smoker needs reinforcement of his/her smoking cessation program. Habits are acquired over a long period of time. You may cease smoking, but the habit can still be active. Fortunately, if not used, it fades and disappears. The success of your program may depend upon your willingness to use a REINFORCEMENT AUDIOTAPE for 21 consecutive days to gradually weaken and eliminate the habit. It is best advised to start the smoking cessation program having made a firm decision to quit. Naturally, your motivation and commitment to stop smoking are essential. If you persist, you succeed.

    Hypnotherapy assists you to discover and access your creative, unlimited potential, thereby allowing for the release of negative or limiting habits and associated ideas. We all experience doubts or setbacks. Resolving problems related to self-esteem, confidence or motivation is one of the most important and valuable capabilities of hypnotherapy.

      Pre-cancerous cells are replaced by healthy cells.
      Risks for other cancers - almost the rate of non-smokers.
      Risks for cancers such as those of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas decrease.

    (There are 30 chemicals in tobacco smoke that cause cancer.)
